COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 300 S. CENTRAL

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred near 300 S. Central. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.

On November 7, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when CPD officers were alerted to a stolen ambulance taken from Loretto Hospital. As officers attempted to stop the ambulance at an intersection, the individual driving the ambulance drove towards officers both on foot and in their vehicles. One officer on foot discharged their weapon, striking the ambulance and a nearby squad car. The ambulance, still being driven by the individual, then struck two squad cars and continued to flee while being pursued by officers. The ambulance then collided with another squad car before striking civilian vehicles. The individual driving the ambulance then exited the vehicle and was apprehended by officers shortly after. Three officers were taken to the hospital in good condition, in addition to several civilians, also in good condition. The individual driving the ambulance was also taken to another hospital in good condition.

COPA can confirm body-worn cameras captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
