COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 112th & SOUTH LANGLEY

On April 22, 2022, the Chicago Police Department notified the Civilian Office of Police Accountability of an officer involved shooting near 11200 S. Langley.

Based on preliminary information, the incident began when the members of the Department responded to a call of a person with a gun, following a dispute between two neighbors.

Officers informed the suspect, who was walking a dog at the time, of the reason for their response. When engaging the suspect and giving verbal commands to raise his shirt, the officers identified what appeared to be the handle of a firearm. After being asked by officers to tie his dog to a nearby fence, the suspect fled. Officers pursued the suspect a short distance when the suspect brandished a firearm. In response, multiple officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital. A knife and two firearms were recovered.

COPA investigators responded to the scene of the incident, immediately began their investigation and reviewed body-worn camera footage of involved officers. COPA can confirm body worn camera footage captures the initial interaction and the subsequent shooting.
