COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFF-DUTY OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 3700 W. 67th PL
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding an off-duty officer-involved shooting that occurred near 3700 W. 67th Place. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.
On April 28, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an off-duty officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when an off-duty CPD officer was confronted by armed individuals breaking into vehicles on the street. Moments later, an exchange of gunfire ensued between the off-duty officer and at least one of the individuals. The officer sustained a minor injury and was transported to the hospital for observation. The armed individuals fled the scene immediately after the incident, but there is no indication they were struck by gunfire.
COPA can confirm 3rd party video captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
