COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFF-DUTY OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 10600 S. LA SALLE ST

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding an off-duty officer-involved shooting that occurred near 10600 S. La Salle Street. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.

On May 5, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an off-duty officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when an off-duty CPD officer observed a domestic disturbance inside a residence. A confrontation with an individual and the off-duty officer ensued, during which the off-duty officer discharged their weapon, striking the individual. The individual was transported to the hospital in critical condition. A gun was recovered on scene.
