COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON FATAL OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 7700 S. CARPENTER
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) investigators responded to the officer involved shooting which occurred yesterday, October 4, 2021 in the 6th Police District near 7700 S. Carpenter Street and began its investigation into the use of deadly force by a member of the Chicago Police Department.
Chicago Police Officers responded to a call requesting police service near 7700 S. Carpenter Street for a domestic disturbance. Once officers arrived and received additional details, one officer entered the residence and engaged the two occupants before discharging his firearm, fatally striking one of the individuals. A knife was recovered.
COPA will interview the involved officer, speak with civilian and sworn witnesses, work with partner agencies to obtain additions materials such as 911 calls, OEMC transmissions, Tactical Response and Incident Reports. COPA can confirm that it has obtained, and reviewed body worn camera video of the involved officer which does capture the incident. As required, COPA will release video and other materials in accordance with the City of Chicago’s Video Release Policy. COPA understands the importance of public trust and is committed to a transparent and timely release of all materials.
