COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON FATAL OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 1800 S. RIDGEWAY AVE
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred near 1800 S. Ridgeway Ave. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.
On February 2, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when Chicago Police officers responded to a burglary-in-progress call. Officers encountered an individual running from a building, which resulted in a foot chase and an exchange of gunfire between five officers and the individual. The individual was struck by gunfire and was transported to the hospital, where the individual was pronounced deceased. The officers were not struck by gunfire, and all were transported to hospital for observation. A gun was recovered on scene.
COPA can confirm body-worn camera captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
