COPA PROHIBITED FROM RELEASING VIDEO & OTHER MATERIALS OF THE OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING INCIDENT NEAR 6300 SOUTH BELL AVENUE
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) received and posted to its website (https://www.chicagocopa.org/case/2021-3097/) a court order prohibiting the release of video and other materials pertaining to the officer involved shooting which occurred on August 7, 2021, near 6300 S. Bell. The incident resulted in the fatal shooting of Chicago Police Officer Ella French and serious injury to a second Chicago Police Officer.
Pursuant to the court order entered on August 16, 2021, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability and all other city entities are currently prohibited from releasing materials relative to this incident under the City’s Video Release Policy and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) during the pendency of the criminal matter.
COPA remains committed to transparency and is conducting a full analysis and investigation of the incident. Body worn camera, third party video and other materials related to this incident will be released upon the lifting of the Judge’s court order.
