    The Police Board holds a regular public meeting once a month. The Superintendent of Police (or his designee) and the Chief Administrator of the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (or her designee) will be at the meetings. Members of the public are invited to attend and are welcome to address questions or comments to the Board. Prior sign-up is required of those wishing to address the Board; to add your name to the list of speakers, please contact the Chicago Police Board's office.     COPA will participate in a virtual event to explain the agency investigative process and share the importance of police oversight to a group of law students at Northwestern University.

    Junior Achievement of Chicago is hosting several Career Days to help high school students make informed, intelligent decisions about their future, and foster skills that will be highly useful in the business world. Staff from COPA will participate in this upcoming Career Day to help students understand the role of COPA, the importance of police oversight, discuss ways youth can improve positive interactions with law enforcement and explain career paths.

  • Junior Achievement Virtual Event with CPS IT Department

    Junior Achievement of Chicago and CPS is partnering to host an event that encourages young men to pursue a post-secondary career in IT. Junior Achievement host several Career Days to help high school students make informed, intelligent decisions about their future, and foster skills that will be highly useful in the business world. Staff from COPA will participate in this to also help students understand the role of COPA, the importance of police oversight, discuss ways youth can improve positive interactions with law enforcement and explain career paths.

    The Office of Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot and the Office of Budget and Management are organizing a series of Budget Engagement Forums for senior leaders across the City to listen to residents about their priorities and ideas for Chicago's next budget. Participants can visit a City resource fair, listen to a budget presentation, and participate in small group discussions as well as public comment. Registration and masks are required.

  • State of Chicago Youth Town Hall

    Mikva Challenge is hosting a State of Chicago Youth Town Hall to amplify policy ideas and visions of youth leaders across Chicago. At the Town Hall, young people will present their advocacy and solutions to ensure Chicago institutions are more equitable and responsive. Youth with Mikva Challenge will also share solutions needed in public sectors including health, education, juvenile justice and community safety.

    COPA will be meeting with various city department agencies and community organizations to discuss effective ways of providing youth outreach and plan youth programming in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

  • COPA Presentation at the CPD Citizens Academy

    COPA's Interim Chief Administrator and the agency's Chief Public Information Officer will speak at the Chicago Police Department Citizens Academy on October 19, 2021. During the presentation, COPA will explain the agency's mission, discuss its commitment to enhancing the profession of policing and share how COPA’s role as a police oversight body advances policing and serves as a catalyst to building community trust.  COPA engages residents in order to build trust, establish relationships, and engage in a conversation regarding police accountability and civilian oversight.

  • GAP Builders Town Hall

    COPA Chief Andrea Kersten will join local elected officials, CPD leadership, and other local stakeholders to:

    Gain a better understanding and receive updates about Chicago’s Consent Decree;
    Learn more about the function of COPA;
    Discuss anti-violence strategies; and
    Hear from the community about its safety concerns.

    This event hosted by the West Side Community Stakeholders' subcommittee, GAP Builders  will be held at Breakthrough Ministries (3219 W. Carroll Avenue, Chicago, IL 60624).

    COPA will attend this resource fair and youth town hall to inform residents of Chicago about the agency role in police accountability. Residents specifically youth will also have an opportunity to hear from other city leaders and city departments to learn more about the city's effort to reduce violence and help make our neighborhoods safer.

  • Uptown United 2nd Annual Juneteenth Jubilee and Resource Fair

    COPA plans to join Uptown United and participate in its 2nd Annual Juneteenth Jubilee and Resource Fair to commemorate this important federal holiday. At this community event taking place on Saturday, June 18th from 11AM-3PM, COPA will have an informational table set up and share with attendees the agency role in police accountability. The public is welcome to this event where there will be free games, prizes, food, and live entertainment for everyone.

    COPA plans to connect with youth and community organizations to share the agency role in police oversight on Friday, June 24th at Fosco Park for the My Chi. My Future. Teen Summer Kickback program. This is the first of six summer kickback programs that the City of Chicago is offering to provide youth with important community resources and interactive activities.

    COPA plans to attend R.A.G.E. (Resident Association of Greater Englewood) So Fresh Saturday Summer Kick-off event in the community of Englewood to help residents learn more about the agency role in police accountability. RAGE and community organizations will be taking over the entire block of 66th & Union for a fun filled afternoon of resources, music, art, giveaways, activities and more.

    COPA will be participating in the Chicago Pride Parade on Sunday, June 26th, 2022. We are excited to walk in the parade with other city officials to show our support for the LGBTQ+ community in Chicago.

    COPA plans to attend a Pride Day Festival hosted by Chicago Center for Arts and Technology (CHICAT) to help residents learn more about the agency role in police accountability. This free family friendly day of fun will be filled with helpful resources, engaging activities, games, and an art exhibition geared towards promoting respect, understanding, diversity, and LGBTQ+ rights through positive discussion.
