COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 9.9.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 9.9.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Leaders Network Community Meeting – September 10, 2024

COPA attended this meeting held in the Austin community that was comprised of faith and community leaders that work together to organize, strategize, and mobilize to improve the quality of life for the west side communities. The theme of this meeting was focused on fighting for economic empowerment and social justice. This meeting included updates from the Leaders Network fully function credit union, updates from the Sankofa Village Project, and several community organizations sharing resources.

New Life Centers Food Distribution – September 11, 2024

COPA was in Humboldt Park on September 11, 2024, at the monthly food distribution event at New Life Centers.  Many families were receiving fresh produce and groceries and accessing resources at this monthly event. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information about our role in police accountability.

Senior Fest 2024 – September 12, 2024
COPA’s participated in the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services Senior Fest 2024 at Millennium Park. The event included a resource fair, live music, giveaways, activities, and a space for seniors to gather and have fun. COPA was giving out information about our role in police accountability and how to file compliments & complaints towards CPD.
