COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 9.2.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 9.2.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Acero Marquez Open House and Fall Community Resource Fair – September 4, 2024

COPA had a great time at the Acero Marquez Open House and Fall Community Resource Fair in the Brighton Park community.  COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information about our role in police accountability. The open house included school supply giveaways, activities, and community organizations that were connecting people to resources.

Westside Ministers’ Coalition Monthly Meeting – September 5, 2024

COPA was in Austin on September 5, 2024, at the monthly Westside Ministers Coalition community meeting. One of the primary purposes of the meeting is to tackle various social issues & discuss ways attendees can bring about a positive change throughout the city. This meeting included information from State Treasurer Michael W. Frerichs on all the programs available through his office.

Take Back the Block – Mayor’s Office – September 6, 2024
COPA’s participated with Mayor Brandon Johnson and several other City of Chicago departments & agencies in his Take Back the Block event in the South Shore community. The event included several speakers that were faith leaders and Alderman Desmon Yancy that gave a call to action to end violence in the community. The city departments & agencies onsite supported resident requests and connected them to services. COPA was giving out information about our role in police accountability and how to file compliments & complaints towards CPD.

TIP (Teens in the Park) Fest – September 7, 2024
COPA had a great time attending Tip (Teens in the Park) Fest at Northerly Island. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information about our role in police accountability. The fest included food, live performances, activities, and community organizations that were giving our information on several resources and programming.
