COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 8.7.23

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 8.7.23. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. CPS Back to School Bash at La Follette Park – 8.8.23

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is hosting several Back-to-School Bashes for students and families to celebrate and prepare for the start of the 2023-24 school year. COPA participated in the CPS bash to celebrate the new school year and explain to families the role our agency plays in police accountability. 

CPS Back to School Bash at Westinghouse High School – 8.9.23

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is hosting several Back-to-School Bashes for students and families to celebrate and prepare for the start of the 2023-24 school year. COPA participated in the CPS bash to celebrate the new school year and explain to families the role our agency plays in police accountability. 

CPD Know Your Rights Roundtable Discussion at Sulzer Regional Library – 8.9.23

COPA joined the Chicago Police Department and community members for a roundtable discussion where the public learned about their rights when interacting with law enforcement. This and future roundtable discussions will provide the public with transparent information that can lead to meaningful, collaborative, and positive outcomes.

City Clerk Mobile City Hall Community Resource Fair at Margate Park – 8.10.23

COPA joined Anna Valencia City Clerk Office along with various other city departments and sister agencies to connect with the community. At this mobile outreach event, COPA had a resource table and shared with the public the agency’s role in police accountability.

Latino Family Wellness & Health Equity Fiesta Fair – 8.12.23

On Saturday, August 12th, COPA attended the Latino Family Wellness & Health Equity Fiesta Summer Fair 2023, which was held in Little Village. This community event featured various health agencies offering screenings, community resource tables, food, and activities. At this outreach event COPA was able to set up a resource table and share with the public the agency role in police oversight.

Convoy of Hope Chicago Community Event – 8.12.23

Greater Southwest Development Corporation and Convoy of Hope Chicago hosted a community event on August 12th at Marquette Park. This event was created as a collaborative effort to bring hope to the Southwest Side of Chicago through free groceries, health screenings, jobs and career services, family portraits, haircuts, a Kids Zone, games, and activities for children and families. COPA participated by setting up a resource table and sharing with the public our agency role in police accountability.
