COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 8.15.22

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago at several community events during the week of 8.15.22. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. City of Chicago’s Health, Wellness & Know Your Rights Information & Resource Fair 8/16COPA attended the City of Chicago’s “Health, Wellness & Know Your Rights Information & Resource Fair” held at the Harold Washington Library on Tuesday, August 16th. Various city agencies and community organizations were present. This event included free legal, housing and tax assistance, onsite health screenings, and information on resources available to the public from various city departments including COPA.

LUCHA & Playstreets Block Party 8/16

COPA was invited to attend this block party held at 1152 N. Christiana Avenue, where backpacks, school supplies, masks, hand sanitizers and food was distributed. PlayStreets partnered with LUCHA through the Chicago Department of Public Health to offer this community event along with many other block parties that have been held throughout the summer on many blocks in the Humboldt Park neighborhood this summer.

Nobel Neighbors Monthly Community Meeting 8/16

COPA looks forward each month to coming together and connecting with many community stakeholders and residents at this outreach event. Nobel Neighbors is a community based organization which focuses on improving the quality of life for residents in Chicago’s West Humboldt Park area.

Zizumbo Elementary Parent Open House Community Event 8/17

COPA shared the agency mission and its role in police oversight at the Zizumbo Elementary Parent Open House hosted by ACERO, which took place in the Archer Heights neighborhood. This event was held to help parents and students prepare for the upcoming school year.

Mobile City Hall 8/18

COPA joined Anna Valencia City Clerk Office along with various other city departments and sister agencies in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood to connect with the community. At this outreach event COPA in addition to various city departments were set up at resource tables to offer residents access to city services at this mobile event which is visiting many communities this year.

AETNA Back to School Health Fair 8/19

COPA attended this Back to School Health & Resource Fair hosted by Aetna Better Health of Illinois and was able to connect with families and share the agency role in police accountability at the Douglass Branch Library. This free community event offered health screenings, community resource tables, food, activities and school supplies for children for the purpose of promoting healthy behaviors and to help prepare families for the upcoming school year.
