COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 8.05.24
COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 8.05.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Chicago Police Department (CPD) 11th District National Night Out – August 6, 2024
COPA had a great time at the Chicago Police Department 11th District National Night Out in North Lawndale. National Night Out is a national community building movement to enhance the relationship between community members and law enforcement. The 11th District block party brought together several community organizations to connect families & young people to resources, various children’s activities, fresh produce, food, live performances, and school supply giveaways. COPA set up a table to provide information about our role in police accountability and how to file complaints and compliments towards CPD.
Chicago Police Department 14th District National Night Out – August 6, 2024
COPA had a great time at the Chicago Police Department 14th District National Night Out in Logan Square. National Night Out is a national community building movement to enhance the relationship between community members and law enforcement. The 14th District event at Haas Park brought together several community organizations to connect families & young people to resources, various children’s activities, food, live performances, and giveaways. COPA set up a table to provide information on how to file complaints and compliments towards CPD.
My Chi My Future Safe Spaces for Youth End of Summer Celebration – August 7, 2024
COPA had a great time at the My Chi My Future Safe Spaces for Youth End of Summer Celebration at the Chicago Cultural Center. These events are hosted by CPS throughout the city to prepare students and families for the upcoming school year. Thousands of Chicagoans across the city participated in youth-led, youth-planned kickback events this past summer in partnership with the Department of Family & Support Services. COPA was able to connect with community partners & young people about our role in police accountability.
Mobile City Hall at Welles Park – August 7, 2024
COPA joined the City Clerk’s Office along with various other city departments and sister agencies to connect with the community. At this mobile outreach event held in the Lincoln Square community, COPA had a resource table and shared with the public the agency’s role in police accountability.
CircEsteem Back to School Event – August 8, 2024
COPA had a great time at the CirEsteem Back-to-School Event in the Gage Park community. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information about our role in police accountability. The event included school supply giveaways, food, and community organizations that were handing our resources. The event was able to give out over 200 backpacks with school supplies to families.
New Life Centers Beloved Community Bash – August 8, 2024
COPA had a great time at the New Life Centers Beloved Community Bash in the Humboldt Park community. The bash included a petting zoo, food, various children’s activities, and local community organizations. COPA was able to set up a resource table with information on how to file compliments & complaints towards CPD as well as our overall role in police oversight.
TA98 & UCAN Da’ Mas Vida Fest – August 9, 2024
COPA had an amazing time at the Da’ Mas Vida Fest organized by TA98 and UCAN in the South Lawndale community. This block party brought together several community organizations to connect families & young people to resources, various children’s activities, live performances, food, arts & crafts, and school supply giveaways. COPA gave out information on how to file compliments or complaints towards CPD.
Senator Omar Aquino & State Representative Lilian Jimenez Annual Back to School Health Fair – August 10, 2024
COPA participated in the Senator Omar Aquino & State Representative Lilian Jimenez Annual Back to School Health Fair in the Belmont Cragin Community. The fair included health screenings, food, fresh produce, children’s activities, school supply giveaways, and several community organizations that were giving our information on available resources. COPA set up a resource table to give out information about our role in police oversight.
Iglesia Evangelica Misionera Health & Resource Fair – August 10, 2024
COPA had a great time at the Iglesia Evangelica Misionera Health & Resource Fair in the Humboldt Park community. The fair included school supply giveaways, health screenings, food, activities, groceries, and community organizations with resources. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on filing compliments and complaints towards CPD.
SER Central States Back to School Book Bag Giveaway – August 10, 2024
COPA participated in the SER Central States Back to School Bookbag Giveaway in the South Lawndale community. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information about our role in police accountability. The event included school supply giveaways, food, activities and community organizations that were handing our resources. The event was able to give out over 100 families school supplies.
