COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 7.17.23

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 7.17.23. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. City Clerk Mobile City Hall Community Resource Fair at Sherman Park District  – 7.18.23

COPA joined Anna Valencia City Clerk Office along with various other city departments and sister agencies to connect with the community. At this mobile outreach event held at Sherman Chicago Park District, COPA had a resource table and shared with the public the agency’s role in police accountability.

Nobel Neighbors Monthly Community Meeting – 7.18.23

Each month COPA looks forward to coming together and connecting with many community stakeholders and residents at this outreach event. This month was no different, which is why we attended the meeting hosted by Nobel Neighbors, a community-based organization that focuses on improving the quality of life for residents in Chicago’s West Humboldt Park area.

West Side Budget Engagement Roundtable – 7.18.23

The Office of Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago’s Office of Budget and Management are organizing a series of Budget Engagement Forums across the City to listen to residents about their priorities and ideas for Chicago’s next budget. COPA was able to participate in the City resource fair, listen to a budget presentation, and participate in small group discussions.

CPD Know Your Rights Roundtable Discussion – 7.19.23

COPA joined the Chicago Police Department and community members for a roundtable discussion where the public learned about their rights when interacting with law enforcement. This and future roundtable discussions will provide the public with transparent information that can lead to meaningful, collaborative, and positive outcomes.

South Side Budget Engagement Roundtable – 7.20.23

The Office of Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago’s Office of Budget and Management are organizing a series of Budget Engagement Forums across the City to listen to residents about their priorities and ideas for Chicago’s next budget. COPA was able to participate in the City resource fair, listen to a budget presentation, and participate in small group discussions.

ACERO’s Back to School Event – 7.21.23

ACERO’s School held at Back-to-School community event at Soto and Idar campus. COPA set up a resource table and shared with youth and their families the role that the agency plays in police accountability. The agency was able to interact with over 1,000 families. At this event attendees were able to engage in great food, music, dance performances, games, activities, back to school giveaways and community resources.

CPS Back to School Bash at Davis Square Park – 7.21.23

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is hosting several Back-to-School Bashes for students and families to celebrate and prepare for the start of the 2023-24 school year. COPA participated in the CPS bash to celebrate the new school year and explain to families the role our agency plays in police accountability.

Lawndale Peace Party – 7.22.23

Marshall Square Resource Network (MSRN), Latinos Progresando, and North Lawndale Community Coordinating Council hosted the Lawndale Peace Party for residents in this community. Attendees at the event were able to come out and enjoy free food, art, music and learn about community resources for family, friends, and neighbors.

1000-1100 N. Harding Block Club Party – 7.22.23

COPA was present at the 1000-1100 N. Harding Block Club Party on Saturday, July 22nd. Residents and guests on this block were able to enjoy a safe environment outdoors that involved a good time of music, food, socializing and learning about community resources.
