COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 5.27.24
COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 5.27.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Austin Youth Network Community Meeting – 5.29.24
COPA had a great time attending the Austin Youth Network Community Meeting held on May 29th. This meeting was hosted by Project Exploration, Austin Experience, and the City of Chicago My Chi My Future Youth programs. COPA was able to share its agency’s role in police reform with various city departments and community organizations that were present. Meeting attendees also discussed and strategized the most effective ways to create a safe summer for young people living in the Austin community.
Level Up Job Fair – 5.30.24
COPA had a great time attending the Level Up Job Fair hosted by Google and Kaar Poh in the Rogers Park community. COPA set up a resource table at this event and talked to the public about the work that we do and advertise our current openings.
Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) Monthly Meeting – 5.30.24
COPA attended the monthly meeting of the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA). CCPSA holds a monthly community meeting to discuss updates to its agency and address concerns the public may have as it relates to affairs with CPD, Police Board and COPA.
Northwest Community Alliance Monthly Meeting – 5.30.24
COPA had a great time attending the Northwest Community Alliance Monthly Meeting hosted by Family Focus. Our agency was able to meet with various not-for-profit organizations to discuss community resources that can be offered to Hispanic communities in Chicago. During the meeting COPA also shared with meeting attendees the role that we play in police oversight.
VPC Youth Service Committee Meeting – 5.31.24
COPA attended this meeting held in South Lawndale to connect with various community organizations in this area to discuss ways to help youth find safe spaces to go during this upcoming summer.
May Monthly Convener Youth Community Meeting – 5.31.24
COPA attended this meeting held in Humboldt Park at the Puerto Rican Cultural Center to connect with various community organizations in this area to discuss ways to help youth find safe spaces to go during this upcoming summer.
Hermosa Neighborhood Association Young & Adult Expungement Workshop – 6.1.24
COPA visited the Hermosa Neighborhood Association for their Youth & Adult Expungement Workshop with the Clerk of the Circuit Court, New Leaf, and Teamwork Englewood. At this outreach event, COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency role in police misconduct with residents who received valuable information about expungement and record sealing.
Mobile City Hall at Jesse Owens Park – 6.1.24
COPA joined the City Clerk Office along with various other city departments and sister agencies to connect with the community. At this mobile outreach event held in Calumet Heights, COPA had a resource table and shared with the public the agency’s role in police accountability.
Southside Youth Explosion Employment Fair – 6.1.24
COPA had a great time in Washington Park at the Southside Youth Explosion Employment Fair hosted at Dyett High School. At this outreach event, COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency role in police misconduct with young people.
Marshall Square Community Summit – 6.1.24
COPA had a great time at the Marshall Square Community Summit hosted at Maria Saucedo Academy. At this outreach event, COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency role in police misconduct. This event featured other resource vendors, activities, and food.
Garfield Park Community Resource Fair – 6.1.24
COPA partnered with the Community Safety Coordination Center (CSCC) for an outdoor resource fair at Garfield Park. At this outreach event, COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency role in police misconduct. This event featured dozens of other resource vendors, activities, and food.
