COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 5.22.23

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 5.22.23. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. CCPSA Community Forum on CPD Superintendent Search – 5.22.23

COPA attended the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) CPD Superintendent Search Forum, which was held at the Beverly Arts Center. This forum was held as part of the search for Chicago’s next police superintendent. Attendees at the meeting were able to share their views on the qualifications and experience they want to see in Chicago’s next superintendent.

Chicago Department of Aviation Airport Expo & Job Fair – 5.24.23

COPA attended the Chicago Department of Aviation Airport Expo & Job Fair to tell residents about our agency role in police accountability. Several city agencies including COPA was able to inform the public about current job openings.

Northwest Community Alliance Meeting – 5.25.23

COPA met virtually with various not-for-profit organizations to discuss community resources that can be offered to Hispanic communities in Chicago.

City Clerk Mobile City Hall Community Resource Fair- 5.25.23

COPA joined Anna Valencia City Clerk Office along with various other city departments and sister agencies to connect with the community. At this mobile outreach event COPA in addition to various city departments set up resource tables and provided residents access to city services.

CCPSA (Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability) Monthly Meeting – 5.25.23

COPA attended the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) monthly meeting. Staff from COPA was able to listen to the community share concerns over various policing issues and policies in the city.

COPA Career Day Presentation at Simeon Career Academy 5.26.23

COPA’s Director of Public Affairs Carlos Rivas Jr. participated in this Career Day at Simeon Academy to help students understand the role of COPA, the importance of police oversight, and discuss ways youth can improve positive interactions with law enforcement and explain career paths.
