COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 5.13.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 5.13.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. My Chi. My Future. Youth Citywide Meeting – 5.13.24
COPA had a great time attending the My Chi. My Future. Citywide Meeting held at the Chicago Cultural Center downtown. At this event, Mayor Brandon Johnson led an insightful youth panel that focused on addressing summer safety for young people. COPA was able to collaborate with various community organizations and youth from across the city to discuss the best programs, services, and safe spaces that the City of Chicago can offer to young people this summer.

Leaders Network Community Meeting – 5.14.24
COPA attended this meeting held in the Austin community that was comprised of faith and community leaders that work together to organize, strategize, and mobilize to improve the quality of life for the west side communities. The theme of this meeting was focused on fighting for economic empowerment and social justice. Some of the guest speakers included Eileen O’Neill Burke, Democratic nominee Cook County State’s Attorney and Deborah Witzburg, Chicago Inspector General.

 

Mobile City Hall at Warren Park – 5.15.24
COPA joined the City Clerk Office along with various other city departments and sister agencies to connect with the community. At this mobile outreach event held in Rogers Park, COPA had a resource table and shared with the public the agency’s role in police accountability. We were also letting residents know about COPA’s upcoming People’s Academy.

Garcia High School Resource Fair – 5.16.24
COPA had a great time in the Archer Heights community attending Garcia High School Resource Fair. At this outreach event COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency role in police misconduct with students and staff at this school.

Chicago Department of Aviation Airport Expo and Job Fair – 5.16.24
COPA attended for a second year in the row the Chicago Department of Aviation Airport Expo & Job Fair which was held at the UIC Forum.  Several city agencies including COPA was able to inform the public about our department operations and the current job openings.

Cook County Health Community Youth Resource Palooza Ball – 5.16.24
COPA had a great time in the Bronzeville neighborhood attending the Cook County Health Community Youth Resource Palooza Ball. At this outreach event COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency role in police misconduct. This event provided youth with access to community resources, food, educational programs, music, and good vibes.

Mobile City Hall at Kilbourn Park – 5.16.24
COPA joined the City Clerk Office along with various other city departments and sister agencies to connect with the community. At this mobile outreach event held in Irving Park, COPA had a resource table and shared with the public the agency’s role in police accountability. We were also letting residents know about COPA’s upcoming People’s Academy.

COPA in the Community at DFSS Southwest Regional Senior Center Resource Fair – 5.17.24

COPA visited this DFSS senior center in Chicago Lawn to help residents in this community learn more about our agency’s mission and vision. During COPA’s visit we provided seniors with an overview of our agency, explained the importance of police oversight, and answered questions that residents had about our agency. This event featured several resource vendors, music, entertainment, snacks, and much more for seniors. 

Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation Community Resource Fair – 5.18.24
COPA had a great time in the Logan Square community attending Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation Community Resource Fair. At this outreach event, COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency role in police misconduct with residents.   

Chicago Department of Housing Resource Fair – 5.18.24
COPA had a great time in the Pullman community attending the Chicago Department of Housing Resource Fair. At this outreach event, COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency role in police misconduct with residents.   During this event the Department of Housing offered several presentations for homeowners on financial management, maintenance, and repairs.
