COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 5.1.23

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 5.1.23. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. CCPSA District Council Inauguration – 5.2.23

COPA attended the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability (CCPSA) District Council inauguration. COPA’s Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten and First Deputy Chief Ephraim Eaddy had the honor to witness history on May 2, 2023, as the new District Council members were sworn in at Harold Washington Cultural Center.

MSRN Quarterly Meeting – 5.3.23

COPA met virtually with over 70 community members at the Marshall Square Resource Network (MSRN) Quarterly Meeting hosted by Latinos Progresando. This event was created to increase the capacity and strength of stakeholders by collaborating to help improve conditions for the community in the Marshall Square neighborhood.

Westside Ministers Coalition Mother’s Day Brunch – 5.4.23

Westside Ministers Coalition hosted a Mother’s Day Bash Brunch on May 4th. The theme of the event was Loving Yourself To Life Mother’s Day Bash Brunch. COPA was present at this community celebration which was held in the Austin community.

 

CCPSA Community Forum on CPD Superintendent Search – 5.4.23

COPA attended the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) CPD Superintendent Search Forum, which was held at Roosevelt High School in Albany Park. This forum was held as part of the search for Chicago’s next police superintendent. Attendees at the meeting were able to share their views on the qualifications and experience they want to see in Chicago’s next superintendent.

Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council (BYNC) Celebracion De Unidad – 5.5.23

COPA joined the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council (BYNC), the Chicago Park District, Light in the Night, and many community organizations to participate in a CINCO de Mayo celebration. This free event offered the residents of this area live music, entertainment, bounce house, community resources, and food.

ACERO Schools Spring Community Resource Fair 5.6.23
COPA attended ACERO Schools Spring Community Resource Fair held at McCormick YMCA on Saturday, May 6, 2023. At this outreach event COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency role in police misconduct.
