COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 4.8.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 4.8.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. CCPSA Public Hearing with CPD Superintendent Snelling – 4.8.24

COPA attended the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) public hearing with CPD Superintendent Larry Snelling. During this meeting the superintendent spoke to the public and answered questions about various policing issues.

Leaders Network Community Meeting – 4.9.24
COPA attended this meeting comprised of faith and community leaders that work together to organize, strategize, and mobilize to improve the quality of life for the west side communities.

NEIU Resource Fair – 4.9.24
COPA attended Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) Health Fair at the college campus. At this outreach event COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency role in police misconduct with students and faculty at NEIU.

New Life Centers Food Distribution – 4.10.24
Each month COPA volunteers at the New Life Centers Food Distribution in Humboldt Park. Over 150 families received fresh produce at this event, connected with our agency, and received health assessments from Rush University Medical Center.

Englewood Job Fair and Employment Resource Fair – 4.11.24
COPA participated in this job and resource fair to help the public better understand the agency mission, explain the importance of police oversight, and informed residents of current job openings.

Annual Family Ties Parenting Retreat – 4.13.24
On Saturday, April 13th COPA participated in the Annual Family Ties Parenting Retreat held at BUILD, Inc. Parents attended workshops focused on effective communication, anxiety & anger, self-care, and wellness. COPA was able to set up a resource table at this event and share with families the role that we play in police accountability.

Latino Family Wellness & Health Equity Fiesta Tour – 4.13.24
On Saturday, April 13th, COPA attended the Latino Family Wellness & Health Equity Fiesta Tour, which was held in Little Village at Instituto Del Progreso Latino. This community event featured various health agencies offering screenings, community resource tables, food, and activities. At this outreach event COPA was able to set up a resource table and share with the public the agency role in police oversight.
