COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 2.19.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 2.19.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Nobel Neighbors Community Meeting – 2.20.24

Each month COPA looks forward to coming together and connecting with many community stakeholders and residents at this outreach event. This month was no different, which is why we attended the meeting hosted by Nobel Neighbors, a community-based organization that focuses on improving the quality of life for residents in Chicago’s West Humboldt Park area. At this community meeting COPA was able to talk to residents and help them understand our agency’s operations. 

COPA in the Community at DFSS Portage Park Satellite Senior Center – 2.20.24

COPA visited this DFSS senior center in Portage Park to help residents in this community learn more about our agency’s mission and vision. During COPA’s visit we provided seniors with an overview of our agency, explained the importance of police oversight, and answered questions that residents had about our agency. 

Friendship Center of Chicago Food Pantry – 2.21.24
COPA’s service committee teamed up with the Friendship Center of Chicago Food Pantry to make a difference in the community. Several of our staff members supported those in need with selected groceries and pet items. COPA is happy to support their work in making a positive impact.

COPA visited this DFSS senior center in Chatham to help residents in this community learn more about our agency’s mission and vision. During COPA’s visit we provided seniors with an overview of our agency, explained the importance of police oversight, and answered questions that residents had about our agency. 

 Intrinsic School 8th Annual Networking Night – 2.22.24
COPA attended Intrinsic School Networking Night for their high school juniors and seniors. Students had an opportunity to learn about career opportunities across a variety of fields including public safety careers like COPA.

Chicago Urban League 3rd Annual Black Wellness Fair – 2.24.24
COPA attended the Chicago Urban League 3rd Annual Black Wellness Fair held on February 24, 2024. At this outreach event, COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency role in police misconduct.
