COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 10.16.23 

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 10.16.23. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Nobel Neighbors Community Meeting – 10.17.23

Each month COPA looks forward to coming together and connecting with many community stakeholders and residents at this outreach event. This month was no different, which is why we attended the meeting hosted by Nobel Neighbors, a community-based organization that focuses on improving the quality of life for residents in Chicago’s West Humboldt Park area. At this community meeting COPA was able to talk to residents and help them understand our agency’s operations.

Oak Street Health Resource Fair & Bingo with Seniors in Garfield Park – 10.19.23

COPA attended Oak Street Health Resource Fair & Bingo with Seniors in Garfield Park on October 19, 2023. During our visit, COPA’s staff spent time engaging with senior citizens and helping them to understand our agency’s mission.

Clean & Green in Hermosa – 10.20.23

COPA has made an agency commitment to offer various community service projects for our staff. One of those efforts includes connecting with the city’s Department of Streets and Sanitation’s Clean & Green program to help clean and beautify various neighborhood lots and parks in the city. On Friday, October 20th we were able to hold a Clean & Green event in the Hermosa neighborhood. This event was hosted by COPA’s Service Committee. 

Community Coat Drive for Migrant Children in Albany Park – 10.21.23

On Saturday, October 21st COPA participated in a Coat Drive for Chicago’s New Arrivals at one of Chicago’s Welcome Centers in Albany Park.  We partnered with the Illinois Venezuelan Alliance for this event and COPA was able to donate 372 new coats towards the new arrival effort.

4th Annual Englewood Health & Harvest Fest – 10.21.23

COPA attended the 4th Annual Englewood Health & Harvest Fest that was held on Saturday, October 21st at 6701 S. Wentworth Avenue. COPA was able to set up a resource table and talk to the community to explain the agency’s mission and help them understand the importance of police oversight. The public was able to receive food giveaways, winter apparel, free health exams and schools.

Citywide Hiring Fair at Dawson Technical Institute – 10.21.23

COPA participated in this Citywide Hiring Fair organized by Alderwoman Jeanette Taylor, 20th Ward, to help the public better understand the agency’s mission, explain the importance of police oversight, and inform attendees of current career opportunities at the agency. This event was held at Dawson Technical Institute (3901 S. State Street) in the Bronzeville community.
