COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 10.07.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 10.7.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Cook County HIV Integrated Programs (CCHIP) Resource Fair & City Key Event – October 8, 2024

COPA had a great time attending the Cook County HIV Integrated Programs Resource Fair and City Key Event at the King Community Center. The Office of the City Clerk  was onsite providing City key ID services. The fair included several local community organizations connecting residents to resources. COPA was giving out information on our role in police accountability.

Leaders Network Community Monthly Meeting – October 8, 2024

COPA Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten was invited to speak to the Leaders Network Community Monthly Meeting in Austin, that was comprised of faith and community leaders that work together to organize, strategize, and mobilize to improve the quality of life for the west side communities. Chief Administrator Kersten gave updates on our agency and the overall state of police oversight in Chicago.

 

Take Back the Block – Mayor’s Office – October 8, 2024
COPA’s participated with Mayor Brandon Johnson and several other City of Chicago departments & agencies in his Take Back the Block event in the Austin community. The event included several speakers that were faith leaders and Alderman Jason C. Ervin that gave a call to action to end violence in the community. The event had City of Chicago departments & agencies onsite supporting resident requests and connecting them to services. COPA was giving out information about our role in police accountability and how to file compliments & complaints towards CPD.

Citywide Career Fair – October 10, 2024
COPA co-sponsored a Citywide Career Fair with several other City of Chicago Agencies and Community Partners at Olive-Harvey College in the Pullman community.  The career fair drew in over 600 community members where over 50 employers were sharing their career opportunities. Several workforce development and community organizations with resources were also onsite to support job seekers with employment support services. COPA was not only an organizer of the career fair, but we also set up a resource table to provide information on our agency and our role in police accountability.

Parent University Day – October 11, 2024
COPA had a great time attending the Third Annual Parent University Day in the Lower West Side community. This event had over 300 participants learning about the onsite programming offered through Parent University and learning about local community resources. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give our information on how to file complaints and compliments towards CPD.

       

Building Wealth Today for Tomorrow Financial Empowerment Summit – October 12, 2024
COPA had an amazing time attending Building Wealth Today for Tomorrow Financial Empowerment Summit organized by Chicago Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin at the UIC Forum. The summit gave Chicagoans access to free financial education workshops and included a resource fair component to connect participants to local resources. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information about our role in police accountability.
