Weekly Spotlight: My Chi My Future Citywide Meeting and more

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 05.19.25. This week our Public Affairs team was in the Loop, Humboldt Park, Belmont Cragin, and the Chatham communities.

Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. My Chi My Future Citywide Meeting – May 19, 2024
COPA’s attended the My Chi My Future Citywide meeting at the Chicago Cultural Center. The citywide meeting brought together stakeholders from throughout the city to have youth centered discussions around planning and implementing safe spaces for young people as well as provide programmatic updates ahead of the summer. COPA was making connections with community partners and providing information on our role in police accountability.

Nobel Neighbors Monthly Community Meeting – May 20, 2024

COPA had a great time attending the Nobel Neighbors Community Meeting in the Humboldt Park community. Nobel Neighbors holds its meeting at various community organizations in the Humboldt Park area. This meeting was held at New Life Center Church in Humboldt Park, its focus was to address the various issues impacting residents and to find proactive solutions. Several community organizations and local official representatives attend this meeting to give information on resources and community updates.  At this meeting COPA Interim Chief Administrator LaKenya White was able to introduce herself and speak on the ways to build trust between the community & CPD. COPA attends these meetings to give out information on our role in police accountability.

Onward House Community Safety Training and Legal Updates Meeting – May 21, 2025

COPA presented at the Onward House Community Safety Training and Legal Updates Meeting in the Belmont Cragin community. COPA Director of Public Affairs Carlos Rivas gave a brief overview of police oversight, our agency & investigative process, and information on filing complaints and compliments for CPD.

Second Chance Initiative Community Resource Fair – May 21, 2025

COPA had an amazing time attending the Second Change Initiative Community Resource Fair in the Chatham community. This fair included several local organizations providing information on programming and various employment opportunities. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on our agency and its role in police accountability.
