COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 02.24.25

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 02.24.25. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Puerto Rican Cultural Center Reimagine Convener Meeting – February 26, 2025
COPA joined the Puerto Rican Cultural Center (PRCC) for their Reimagine Convener Meeting in Humboldt Park. The PRCC gathers service providers and community partners from the northwest side to share resources, plan activities, and work collectively to end violence while proactively supporting young people. COPA was able to share our role in police oversight and give out information on how to file complaints and compliments towards CPD.

Chicago is with You Taskforce Meeting – February 26, 2025

COPA had a great time attending the Chicago is With You Taskforce Monthly Meeting. The Chicago is With You Task Force, is a collaborative community outreach effort aimed at connecting immigrant and refugee communities to mental health, legal services, as well as providing diversity training for employers & educational institutions and is chaired by City Clerk Anna Valencia. This meeting included presentations from Beatrice Ponce de Leon, Deputy Mayor for Immigrant, Migrant, and Refugee Rights and Alderman Andre Vasquez who is also the city councils Chair of the Committee on Immigrant and Refugee Rights.  COPA attends these meetings to give out information on our role in police accountability and how to file compliments & complaints towards CPD.

Northwest Community Alliance Meeting – February 27, 2025
COPA had a great time attending the Northwest Community Alliance Monthly Meeting hosted at Emmanuel Church Chicago. Our agency was able to meet with various not-for-profit organizations to discuss community resources that can be offered to Latino communities on the Northwest side of Chicago. This meeting also included a presentation from the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County (CEDA) on their many resources and programs. During the meeting COPA also shared with meeting attendees the role that we play in police oversight.

Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) Monthly Meeting – February 27, 2025
COPA attended the monthly meeting of the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) at Sullivan High School. CCPSA holds a monthly community meeting to discuss updates to its agency and address concerns the public may have as it relates to affairs with CPD, Police Board and COPA.

Black History Month Celebration at the DFSS Southwest Regional Senior Center – February 28, 2025

COPA had a great time at the Black History Month Celebration at the Department of Family and Support Services Southwest Regional Senior Center. This lively group of seniors was excited to celebrate the many contributions made by the black community.  COPA was able to set up a resource table and provide information about our role in police accountability.

My Chi My Future Monthly Convener Meeting – February 28, 2025

COPA attended the My Chi My Future Monthly Convener Meeting hosted by Beyond the Ball anchor organization. The meeting included training from Erikson Institute on supporting youth in the current social, cultural, and political context.   COPA attends these meetings to give out information about our role in police oversight.

Pathways to Power: A Career Expo – March 1, 2025

COPA had a great time at the Pathways to Power: A Career Expo organized by the Chicago Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, incorporated at Olive-Harvey College. A variety of employers were on site giving out information on their career opportunities. During the expo there were also several presentations on career advancement by industry leaders. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file complaints or compliments towards CPD.
