COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 01.26.26. This week our Public Affairs team was in Chicago Lawn, West Town, Near West Side, Lower West Side, and South Lawndale communities.
Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Bingo at DFSS Southwest Regional Senior Center – January 28, 2026
COPA Interim Chief Administrator LaKenya White had a great time hosting Bingo at the Department of Family and Support Services Southwest Regional Senior Center. This lively group of seniors is always excited to welcome us for a chance to win a prize and be in community. COPA hosts bingo and is also able to set up a resource table to give out information about our role in police accountability. Huge thank you to all COPA staff that donated items to support our outreach efforts with this intergenerational community.

Northwest Community Alliance Meeting – January 29, 2026
COPA had a great time attending the Northwest Community Alliance Monthly Meeting hosted at Wright College Humboldt Park campus. Our agency was able to meet with various not-for-profit organizations to discuss community resources that can be offered to Latino communities on the Northwest side of Chicago. During the meeting COPA also shared with meeting attendees the role that we play in police oversight.

Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) Monthly Meeting – January 29, 2026
COPA Interim Chief Administrator LaKenya White and her team attended the monthly meeting of the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) hosted at Malcolm X College. At this meeting Interim Chief White accepted the CCSPA 2026 goals that were established for the agency. The commission also unanimously voted to nominate Interim Chief White to be the next Chief Administrator of COPA.

COPA at Chicago Animal Care & Control – January 30, 2026
COPA partnered with Chicago Animal Care & Control and Safe Human Chicago for some of our staff to engage the many dogs & cats that are awaiting adoption. COPA was also able to donate supplies to support the amazing work of the CACC after holding a month-long donation drive at our offices. A special thank you to all COPA staff that donated items to the CACC. Some lucky folks also left with some new furry friends!

COPA at Chicago Public Library – Little Village Branch La Hora de Cuentos – January 31, 2026
COPA had a great time at the Chicago Public Library, Little Village Branch for La Hora de Cuentos. The Little Village branch has ongoing activities and groups accessible to the entire community including a LEGO Club, GED classes, and ESL classes. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file compliments and complaints towards CPD.
