COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 9.23.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 9.23.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Round Table Discussion Faith Leaders Luncheon – September 23, 2024

COPA attended the Round Table Discussion Faith Leaders Luncheon convened by North Park University, Center of Civic Engagement, and The Leaders Network Chicago. The luncheon gathered faith leaders to discuss the launching of an Illinois Office for Faith Based Community Development.

Social Justice Employment & Volunteer Fair  – September 24, 2024

COPA had a great time attending the Social Justice Employment & Volunteer fair at Harold Washington College. The fair offered students the opportunity to connect with resources and career opportunities in social justice. COPA was giving our information about on filing complaints or compliments towards CPD.

My Chi My Future Citywide Meeting – September 24, 2024
COPA’s attended the My Chi My Future Citywide meeting at the Chicago Cultural Center. The citywide meeting brought together stakeholders from throughout the city to plan and implement safe spaces for young people as well as provide programmatic updates. COPA was making connections with community partners and providing information on our role in police accountability.

South Chicago Resource Fair – September 25, 2024
COPA had a great time attending the South Chicago Satellite Senior Centers Fall Health & Resource Fair. The fair included vaccinations, food, karaoke, music, and community organizations sharing resources. COPA was giving our information on our role in police oversight and filing complaints & compliments towards CPD.

Northwest Center Youth Advisory Council Meeting  – September 25, 2024
COPA attended the Northwest Center Youth Advisory Council Meeting in the Belmont Cragin community. This monthly meeting is a My Chi My Future anchor organizations and convenes to create safe spaces and activities for young people. At this meeting COPA’s Police Research and Analysis Division (PRAD) held a conversation with the youth council members to gain valuable insight on disciplinary recommendations for police misconduct.

Northwest Community Alliance Meeting – September 26, 2024
COPA had a great time attending the Northwest Community Alliance Monthly Meeting hosted by Family Focus. At this month’s meeting hosted at the Wilbur Wright College campus attendees were able to hear from the newly appointed college President Andrés A. Oroz.  Our agency was able to meet with various not-for-profit organizations to discuss community resources that can be offered to Latino communities on the Northwest side of Chicago. During the meeting COPA also shared with meeting attendees the role that we play in police oversight.

Parents Open House at Richards Career Academy – September 26, 2024
COPA had a great time at the Parents Open House at Richards Career Academy in the New City community. The open house gave parents an opportunity to gather information on various community resources. COPA was giving our information on our role in police accountability.

Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) Monthly Meeting – September 26, 2024
COPA attended the monthly meeting of the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA). CCPSA holds a monthly community meeting to discuss updates to its agency and address concerns the public may have as it relates to affairs with CPD, Police Board and COPA.

Ashburn Parent University Open House – September 27, 2024
COPA had a fantastic time at the Ashburn Parent University Open House held at Bogan High School. The open house gave parents and community members the ability to explore the programming offered through Parent University and access information from local organizations with resources. COPA was giving our information on how to file a complaints & compliments towards CPD.
