COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 12.16.24
COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 12.16.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. COPA at Clearing Library – December 16, 2024
COPA had a great time at the Clearing Chicago Public Library. The Clearing Branch has ongoing activities and groups accessible to the entire community including a Mahjong club, a board game club, and several story times. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file compliments and complaints towards CPD.
Nobel Neighbors Monthly Community Meeting – December 17, 2024
COPA had a great time attending the Nobel Neighbors Community Meeting in the Austin community. This meeting was held at the Chicago Jesuit Academy in Austin, who gave us a tour and shared their mission for education. One of Nobel Neighbors’ focus is to address the various issues impacting residents and to find proactive solutions. Several community organizations and local official representatives attend this meeting to give information on resources and community updates. COPA attends these meetings to give out information on our role in police accountability.
My Chi. My Future. Citywide Meeting – December 17, 2024
COPA had an amazing time attending the My Chi. My Future. Citywide Meeting at the Harold Washington Library. Mayor Brandon Johnson along with city agencies, and community partners were on hand to hear from anchor organizations. These organizations were presenting their community plans that they have been developing throughout the year. These plans organize around issues impacting youth in various parts of the city. COPA has been a partner to several of these anchor organizations, participating in their monthly meetings, and by supporting to plan & attend their events.
Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability (CCPSA) Hosts West Side Community Listening Session on Traffic Stops – December 17, 2024
COPA attended the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability West Side Community Listening Session on Traffic Stops at the JLM Center in the East Garfield Park Community. CCPSA is hosting several listening sessions throughout the city to hear from residents and their experiences with traffic stops. They are also hoping to receive feedback on current Chicago Police Department policies to form potential changes to their practices.
Chicago is with You Taskforce Meeting – December 18, 2024
COPA had a great time attending the Chicago is With You Taskforce Monthly Meeting. The Chicago is With You Task Force, is a collaborative community outreach effort aimed at connecting immigrant and refugee communities to mental health, legal services, as well as providing diversity training for employers & educational institutions and is chaired by City Clerk Anna Valencia. COPA attends these meetings to give out information on our role in police accountability and how to file compliments & complaints towards CPD.
COPA at Vodak-East Side Library – December 19, 2024
COPA had a great time at the Vodak-Easy Side Chicago Public Library in the East Side community. The Vodak-East Side Branch has ongoing activities and groups accessible to the entire community including various health awareness groups, family film screenings, and several story events. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file compliments and complaints towards CPD.
COPA at Near North Library – December 19, 2024
COPA had a great time at the Near North Chicago Public Library. The Near North Branch has ongoing activities and groups accessible to the entire community including a board game night, a teen zone, and several story times. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file compliments and complaints towards CPD.
COPA at the Consulate General of El Salvador – December 20, 2024
COPA had a great time at the Consulate General of El Salvador in the O’Hare community. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on our role in police accountability and how to file compliments & complaints towards CPD.
COPA at Hegewisch Library – December 21, 2024
COPA had a great time at the Hegewisch Chicago Public Library. The Hegewisch Branch has ongoing activities and groups accessible to the entire community including holiday ornament making activities, book clubs for adults, and several story events. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file compliments and complaints towards CPD.
