COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 1.1.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 1.1.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Beat Meeting with Nobel Neighbors – 1.2.24
Nobel Neighbors invited COPA, local police, church leaders, elected officials, and community residents to join them at the Chicago Police Department’s Beat 2535 meeting held on January 2, 2024 at BVM School. Nobel Neighbors discussed their elevated concerns about recent murders and overall neighborhood security. COPA is proud to partner with Nobel Neighbors whose mission is to strengthen communities, bring resources, and connect residents.

City of Chicago’s My Chi My Future Winter Kickback Youth Event in Roseland– 1.4.24
Teens in 15 communities planned several events for their neighborhoods over winter break. COPA attended one of these many events and was able to help young people learn more about our agency. On January 4th COPA tabled and spoke to several young people at Olive-Harvey College in Roseland for its winter kickback youth event which was hosted by City of Chicago’s My Chi My Future program and Metropolitan Family Services.

Westside Ministers Coalition Monthly Meeting – 1.4.24

COPA attended the Westside Ministers’ Coalition monthly community meeting. This organization mission is to provide services that will initiate self-help efforts to improve the Austin community of Chicago in areas of housing, public safety, reentry, clergy involvement, education, health, energy, conservation, community, youth and economic development, to work in cooperation with other organizations sharing similar values.

Teens in 15 communities planned several events for their neighborhoods over winter break. COPA attended one of these many events and was able to help young people learn more about our agency. On January 4th COPA set up a resource table in Auburn Gresham for its winter kickback youth event which was hosted by City of Chicago’s My Chi My Future program and Metropolitan Family Services.

City of Chicago’s My Chi My Future Winter Kickback Youth Event in Brighton Park– 1.5.24
Teens in 15 communities planned several events for their neighborhoods over winter break. COPA attended one of these many events and was able to help young people learn more about our agency. On January 5th COPA set up a resource table in Brighton Park for its winter kickback youth event which was hosted by City of Chicago’s My Chi My Future program and SGA Youth & Family Service.

City of Chicago’s My Chi My Future Winter Kickback Youth Event in Humboldt Park – 1.5.24
Teens in 15 communities planned several events for their neighborhoods over winter break. COPA attended one of these many events and was able to help young people learn more about our agency. On January 5th COPA set up a resource table in Humboldt Park for its winter kickback youth event which was hosted by City of Chicago’s My Chi My Future program and Young Men’s Christian Association.

AETNA Winter Wellness Health & Resource Fair – 1.7.24
COPA attended Aetna Winter Wellness Health & Resource Fair which took place on January 7th at Thurgood Marshall Library (7506 S. Racine Avenue) in Auburn Marshall. At this outreach event COPA set up a resource table and shared with the public the agency’s role in police oversight. This resource fair offered the community activity zone for kids, free giveaways, free health screenings, and free well-being resources.
