This post was updated on July 18, 2024 to include the Final Summary Report and CPD Response. Please note that as part of the non-concurrence process, COPA agreed to the 365 day suspension recommended by the Superintendent.
NOTE: The release of all Final Summary Reports is mandated pursuant to the City of Chicago Municipal Code (Section 2-78-145, viewable here) and the Consent Decree in State of Illinois v. City of Chicago (17-cv-6260, paragraph 499, viewable here). As standard practice, COPA attempts to notify the involved individual and/or their representative of its obligation to post the report to its website.
Pursuant to Section IV(B) of the City of Chicago’s Video Release Policy, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office requested and the City’s Department of Law granted a 30 day extension in which to release video and other related materials in the officer-involved shooting that occurred September 25, 2020. Accordingly, the deadline for release has been postponed to December 24, 2020. This extension was granted on November 18, 2020. COPA remains committed to transparency and the release of video and other materials as outlined within City policy. Upon authorization, COPA will facilitate the prompt release of all required materials.
Pursuant to a court order entered on December 4, 2020, in the case of People v. Eric Guedes, No. 20CR-1202801, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability is currently prohibited from releasing materials relative to this incident.
