Weekly Spotlight: My Chi. AKArama Foundation 2nd Annual Block Party and more

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 09.01.25. This week our Public Affairs team was in Brighton Park, Austin, Englewood, Loop, Hegewisch, and Woodlawn communities.

Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Acero Márquez Open House & Fall Community Resource Fair – September 3, 2025

COPA had a great time attending Acero Marquez Dia del Nino & Spring Resource Fair in the Brighton Park community. This annual event brings together different community resources, children’s activities, and entertainment to their school community. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file compliments and complaints towards CPD.

Westside Ministers’ Coalition Monthly Meeting – September 4, 2025
COPA was in Austin at the monthly Westside Ministers Coalition community meeting. One of the primary purposes of the meeting is to tackle various social issues & discuss ways attendees can bring about a positive change throughout the city. COPA attends these meetings to give out information on our role in police accountability and how to file compliments & complaints towards CPD.

Alderwoman in the Park at Moran Park – September 4, 2024

COPA had a great time attending Alderwoman in the Park at Montgomery Moran Park hosted by Alderwoman Stephanie D. Coleman. This event is organized by Alderwoman Coleman, which works to bring city services and other community resources directly to the community and delicious BBQ food by Michael Airhart Taste for the Homeless.  COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information about our role in police accountability.

City Clerk’s Mobile City Hall – Southeast – September 6, 2025
COPA joined City Clerk Anna Valencia for the Mobile City Hall in the Hegewisch community. The City Clerk’s office, along with various other city departments, were onsite to connect city services directly to the community including obtaining a City Key ID, city stickers, and other permits. COPA was able to set up a resource table and share with the public the information on filing complaints and compliments towards CPD.

AKArama Foundation 2nd Annual Block Party – September 6, 2025
COPA had a great time at the AKArama Foundation 2nd Annual Block Party in the Woodlawn community. The block party included performances, activities, giveaways, food, and community organizations giving our information about local resources. The event included speeches from Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle and Alderwoman Stephanie Coleman. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information about the role that we play in police oversight.
