COPA TO HOST TRAINING ACADEMY IN SPRING 2023 AT PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING CENTER

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) announced it will host its ninth COPA Training Academy this spring at the new Public Safety Training Center in Humboldt Park.

COPA’s Training Academy, developed and implemented in 2017, advances staff preparedness, provides training, and exercises that increase investigator and legal staff skill sets to create the highest level of assurance with residents of the City of Chicago, civilian and sworn.

COPA’s (6-12 week) academy, which provides 230 hours of training spanning 70 topics, are taught by national and local subject matter experts in investigations, legal concepts, use of force, law enforcement oversight, implicit bias, and procedural justice.

The Public Safety Training Center will provide comprehensive, joint, and best practice training resources for all first responders and strengthen collaboration with fellow public safety partners. The center will provide the city’s first responders with the most modern facilities to hone their skills for emergency response situations, investigations, and tactical operations, while acting as a resource for the entire public safety community.

“COPA is excited to partner with first responders by utilizing the Public Safety Training Center for our upcoming Training Academy in the spring of 2023, while building an on-going partnership with law enforcement and city residents” said Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten.
