COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER MATERIALS RELATED TO OFF-DUTY OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 6500 W. IMLAY STREET

CHICAGO – Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) posted to its website, video and other materials related to an off-duty officer-involved shooting by a member of the Chicago Police Department near 6500 W. Imlay Street on April 28, 2022, in accordance with and in advance of the City’s 60-day Video Release policy.

On April 28, 2022, a member of the Department observed a vehicle with two suspects believed to be engaged in suspicious activity near a parked vehicle. The officer engaged the suspects with a verbal command, which resulted in the suspects discharging their firearm in the direction of the officer. The officer briefly took cover, and then returned fire. The suspects drove away and were not apprehended.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing and once concluded, COPA will release the Summary Report of Investigation in accordance with Municipal Ordinance.
