COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER MATERIALS FROM FATAL OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 1800 S. RIDGEWAY AVE

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is releasing video and other materials related to a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred near 1800 S. Ridgeway Ave.

On February 2, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when Chicago Police officers responded to a burglary-in-progress call. Officers encountered an individual running from a building, which resulted in a foot chase and an exchange of gunfire between five officers and the individual. The individual was struck by gunfire and was transported to the hospital, where the individual was pronounced deceased. The officers were not struck by gunfire, and all were transported to hospital for observation. A gun was recovered on scene.

COPA serves as the designated agency for the City of Chicago authorized to release video and other materials per the Consent Decree and the City’s Video Release Policy.
