CHICAGO – Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) posted to its website, materials related to log number 1071168.

The materials released are related to an officer involved shooting which resulted in the death of DeSean Pittman on August 24, 2014. The investigation was concluded by the Independent Police Review Authority (IPRA) September 19, 2017.

As a part of COPA’s commitment to transparency and those impacted, staff contacted the Pittman family who has agreed to the release of materials related to this incident. Materials were previously not released citing the Juvenile Court Act.

Additionally, after consulting with families or their representatives, COPA respects the desires of those impacted in other incidents not to release materials to COPA’s website related to officer involved shootings or deaths as a result of police action that involve a minor. However, certain materials will be available via Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
