COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTINGS NEAR 7200 S. ARTESIAN AVENUE

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update on a recent officer-involved shooting near 7200 S. Artesian Avenue in the 8th Police District.

On September 18, 2022, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting near 7200 S. Artesian Avenue. COPA investigators immediately responded to the scene and began the investigation.

Based on preliminary information, the incident began when members of the Department observed a group of individuals standing near an alleyway. As three officers approached, members of the group fled leading to a foot pursuit. An officer observed one of the subjects, attempting to flee, holding a firearm and the officer discharged his weapon. The subject, who is a juvenile, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital. Two guns were recovered on scene.

“COPA investigators reviewed and have obtained video footage from the incident, and we can confirm body-worn camera of the officer captures the shooting,” said COPA First Deputy Chief Administrator Ephraim Eaddy. “COPA is committed to full transparency. Materials related to these incidents will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of each incident unless prohibited by court order or the Juvenile Court Act.”
