COPA PROHIBITED FROM RELEASING VIDEO & OTHER MATERIALS OF THE OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING INCIDENT NEAR 112th & SOUTH LANGLEY

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) has received and posted to its website (https://www.chicagocopa.org/case/2022-0001664/) a court order prohibiting the release of video and other materials pertaining to the officer involved shooting which occurred on April 22, 2022, near 112th & South Langley.

The incident began when members of the Department responded to a call of a person with a gun. Officers located and began questioning the suspect, who then fled a short distance, leading to a brief foot pursuit. The suspect brandished a firearm in the direction of officers which resulted in multiple officers discharging their firearms, striking the suspect.

Pursuant to court order entered on June 9, 2022, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability and all other city entities are currently prohibited from releasing materials relative to this incident under the City’s Video Release Policy.

COPA is committed to an objective and transparent investigation. Body worn camera, third party video and other materials related to this incident will be released once the court order is lifted.
