Sherry Daun, Director of Investigations

Sherry Daun brings over 16 years of legal and investigative experience to COPA.  She currently directs COPA’s Intake Unit, responsible for processing over 5,000 complaints each year. She entered the field of investigating police misconduct in 2004 as an attorney working for the Cook County’s Office of the Special Prosecutor which investigated allegations of torture and coerced confessions by former CPD commander Jon Burge. Ms. Daun joined the Independent Police Review Authority as an Investigator in 2008 and became a Supervisor in 2011. In 2017 she started with COPA as a Supervising Investigator before becoming a Director of Investigations in 2021.  Ms. Daun holds a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Broadfield Social Science.
